The Alexander Educational Center's goal is to provide confident, skillful, working specialists. F. M. Alexander's discovery of his Technique was a highly individualized process requiring patience, perseverance and uncompromising self-observation. Likewise, training teachers of the Alexander Technique is a highly individualized process.
Services
The class is taught in a large studio with plenty of light and space, located at 830 Bancroft Way (at 6th Street) Room #113 Berkeley, CA 94710. The Alexander Educational Center is an AmSAT approved Teacher Training Course. The training program meets from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday through Friday and is in session 36 weeks a year.
An enrollment deposit of $750, to be paid on acceptance into TAEC, will be deducted from the final payment for the final ninth trimester. The Alexander Educational Center must make arrangements and commitments well in advance to provide for its educational program. The school's expenses do not diminish with the departure of a student during the school year; therefore, the enrollment deposit will only be returned if the student gives four weeks notice (four weeks of class time) of intent to leave the training, in writing, and is current with their fees at the time of notice.
The Alexander Educational Center's mission is to create confident, skillful, working professionals. Upon graduation our trainees have: the essential "hands-on-skills" needed to convey the Alexander Technique, the teaching skills for presenting the work to various individuals and groups, the confidence that their training has given them a thorough grounding in the Technique, the ability to demonstrate and articulate the essential nature of F. M. Alexander's work and the mastery needed to practically change a person's "use".
Ten years of careful self-observation by F. Matthias Alexander led to the discoveries that became the cornerstone of the Alexander Technique. While attempting to solve the vocal problems that were ruining his career as a Shakespearean recitalist, Alexander discovered that he was creating a pattern of tension that was interfering with the harmonious relationship between his head, neck and back.
