Mindful Body We are proud to continue being a welcoming, community-based center that offers high quality, therapeutic massage and intelligent yoga in small class sizes, The MindSet method for inner development work, meditation classes and a variety of workshops. Our vision is to offer something that is meaningful and supportive in life's always evolving changes.

The studio was founded by Roy Bergmann and his daughter Hillary, who passed the torch to yoga teacher Maile Sivert in 2014. In 2018 Priya and Guy Glikman partnered with Maile and brought The MindSet method to the center.
Services
We offer classes which are appropriate for all students new to yoga, including all ages, body types, and levels of fitness. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your class to allow enough time to check in and set up your practice space. For your convenience, we provide free mats and yoga props at the studio. Introduce yourself to the teacher and let him/her know if you have any injuries or specific concerns. Our teachers are trained to support you.
A class designed for beginners or those who would like to work at a slower pace. Beginner classes are ideal for building a strong foundation and understanding the philosophy and basic postures of Hatha Yoga. Cultivating the tools for internal experience, Hatha Yoga integrates physical postures (asanas), attention to energy and patterns of the breath (pranayama) and concentration (dharana).
Please Note: Lake Street is a slow street and closed to through traffic, so please plan accordingly as you look for parking. Bathrooms are next to the playground; enter through Funston or 12th Avenue.
We have a pregnancy dream team of highly trained, experienced practitioners and mothers ready to support you with everything you need beyond the doctor's office. Once your baby arrives, bring them to practice with you in a community of like-minded parents. Prenatal yoga is for all students, including beginners, from conception until the day you deliver.

Please stop this virtual class nonsense! Let your massage therapist make a living. All metaphysical/mental therapies get destroyed being conveyed through computers does not match with nature it matches with robots and is quite unnatural

I would like to express my gratitude to Sara Meghrouni for her phenomenal massages. Her touch is intuitive and healing. Within minutes into a massage with her you'll simply melt into a state of bliss and relaxation.

My review is for my experience with Lisa Hou, my massage therapist. I've seen Lisa for about a dozen times in the last year. I joined Mindful Body's massage membership program solely because of Lisa. She is an absolute healer. Every touch is precise and intentional. She is very aware of the areas you need help with. Each time I leave her table, I feel lifted and relieved from my years of pain accumulated through child birth, bad posture, and bad work habits.

Believe me, Lisa knows exactly where you feel pain. If you really want to improve your overall health and well-being, you should incorporate Lisa's sessions into your wellness plan.

Went for a deep tissue yesterday and was very disappointed. The therapy did the same repetitive movement up and down my spine, over and over again. They did not focus on problem areas. It felt like a light Swedish massage, if anything. I asked for more pressure several times. I left relaxed but without relief from muscle tension.

Lisa Hou is an amazing massage therapist. Honestly, she's not for everyone, she's tough, deep, pointed and an incredible diagnostician. Her massages are a team sport, it's work, and it's worth it! I've seen her every month for the past two years, and swear she's added years back to my life. Lisa is one of a kind and if you're looking to troubleshoot, fix, heal, give her a shot!

From the front desk staff who are always so welcoming and inviting to the incredible hands of JJ Johnson. This place is awesome and has become my go-to for massages. JJ is like no other massage therapist I've ever had. She is meticulous, intentional about every movement and really great energy. I am a big JJ fan and she is what keeps me coming back!

This lovely studio has been around since 1994! I started coming when I was pregnant earlier this year, so far I've enjoyed both the prenatal and postnatal (yes you can bring your baby!) yoga sessions, Kari the instructor is so wonderful, she always gives the best tips, and is just so resourceful and lovely to be around with. I recently woke up with the most horrid arm pain (new moms you know it) and was able to get a same day massage appointment with Consuelo, now. I've had my fair share of massages in many cities at hotels, gyms etc, Consuelo has magical fingers!

She applied just the right amount of force and she knew how to heel and relieve pain. I'm not a fan of subscriptions normally but I signed up for a monthly package and can't wait to see her next month!

A 5 star well deserved! Front desk very polite, professional and sweet The setting was very clean, quiet and that citrus scent makes you want to stay there. forever The massage room was cozy and comfortable and massage therapist, Consuelo was amazing! She heard me as I made a few requests regarding body pain and what I want as a result of that experience. She went above and beyond. Totally worth every single penny!

I have been coming to the Mindful Body for over 10 years to receive body massage treatment. Over the years I have had wonderful and then some not so wonderful experiences. My last massage was the most "unique" experience I have ever had. Her name was Megan. When I entered the room, I explained that I like to decompress and rarely talk during massage.

She was very chatty after asking me where my tension lies in my body. We talked about what parts of the body she would work on first and then she left the room to give time for me to get settled on the massage table. When she came back we started the session. Throughout the service there was a lot of talking which was annoying me but I believe she was trying to be helpful and give suggestions on how to reduce muscle tension at home.

By far, the most bizarre part was the body feedback of involuntary shaking, noises and other reactions she had to my muscle tension. This was probably her own unique form of energy healing but it was NOT relaxing. It was quite frankly very off putting. She told me she was moving my tight muscle energy out of my body, through hers and then releasing it to the floor.

I wanted to end the session but told myself to be open minded and give her a chance. I will not be returning to Megan. She was a nice person who may have had good healing intentions, but the whole experience was really bizarre. Also, Mindful Body has increased their massage rates. An hour massage is pricey for the location and services provided.

This yoga center was interesting. It's a wellness center. I tried to find out about their philosophy and they told me to check out the website. It's very quiet. I did a yoga session and it was alright. It wasn't too demanding. It was relaxing and the music playing was creepy and eerie. The lighting is dim. There was a good attendance. I am not really built for yoga, but I like to work on yoga. It's fun sometimes. This was a ClassPass offering. This was in Lower Pacific Heights. Interesting center.

This place was recommended to me as a great place for prenatal yoga, and it has since become my go-to studio for yoga and massage. I have taken yoga with Lydia, Kari, and Rachel--all incredible women who are not only great yogis, but also fantastic resources for nervous mothers-to-be. MB's studios are small and beautiful: hardwood floors, high ceilings.

They offer mats, bolsters, blankets, blocks and straps at no charge. And there is never more than 12 students per class, which is definitely my speed (who likes an overcrowded yoga class?) In addition to prenatal yoga, I've also taken the couples workshop offered by Kari Marble--which allowed me to introduce my husband to his first yoga class, ever--as well as prenatal massage with their wonderful hands-on therapists who understand the special needs of a big preggo belly. This studio is definitely worth every penny for every expectant lady.

I attended a "Yoga Shanti: Gentle Yoga" class here on a Monday evening, while on vacation in San Francisco. I booked the class through ClassPass. Here's what I liked about the class and the studio. 1. Welcoming atmosphere. Checking in was easy, and the staff member at the reception showed me around the studio prior to the class. 2. Hands on instructor - Neha, the instructor, told us how to set up for class so that she can provide us with modifications during the class.

She was very engaged, checked in on the students frequently without being too intrusive, and even included a wonderful mini shoulder and head massage during the class. 3. Free yoga mats, and plenty of bolsters, blankets, and other yoga props - Because it's always nice to not have to fork over $3 for a yoga mat or to not have to passive aggressively glare at the person trying to take the last bolster. 4.

Class size - The yoga room was high ceiling-ed and spacious, and the class did not have more than 10 students, so every one was able to enjoy their practice without worrying about accidentally stabbing someone in the eye while attempting a back/shoulder stretch. Overall, a really great place to grow your practice, and to engage in community based yoga!

I was visiting San Francisco for 10 days and practiced here several times. I had such a wonderful experience in all the classes and felt such a sense of welcome and community. I am very particular with yoga classes and can sense when the studio is based off of authentic teachings, and this one definitely is. It's a safe and very quiet and welcoming environment with a lot of regulars who are friendly and know each other.

My favorite experience was with the teacher "Dee." I was very inspired by the detail and mindfulness of her teaching style. I respect her rich teaching experience and felt the sense of community when I found out she had been teaching there for so long, with regulars coming for years. Inspiring lady & studio, I think about it often, recommend it to others, and can't wait to return to San Francisco so I can practice again. Thanks so much for the space that you create!

I am such a HUGE fan of Elaine Needleman's Yin Yoga class. Elaine has a gentle vibe about her and has found the balance between speaking and silence during her classes. But. what is Yin, you ask? Yin is slow paced yoga which requires holding poses for extended periods of time. No signature downward dog, but you'll see an occasional child's pose and take frequent shavasanas (which is corpse pose for you aspiring yogis). It's not restorative yoga because it's you're not just there to relax.

These poses are done all on the floor, seated or lying down. The class I take is on Sundays from 6-7:30 and I always leave feeling rejuvenated. Street parking can be a little rough. Found this class through Classpass, but they have drop in rates (can't recall exactly, but I think it's $19/class). Love this class and would come every week if I could!

Great place for a massage! It's a yoga studio/massage place, so just know that it's not a spa. That said, the ambiance is very comfortable and relaxing. The massage rooms are nice and warm, and they are not too cramped. The pillows they offered for my prenatal massage were very comfortable. I booked a same day massage with Sarah M. She was professional, accommodating, and listened to my preferences.

She has strong hands (I like deep tissue), and she created a very relaxing environment with the way she spoke, massaged, and carried herself. After my massage, I used the shower. The water pressure was fairly weak, and the bathroom temperature was cold compared to my massage room (I was cold while taking the shower). They provide clean towels, robes, and a hair dryer. No couples massages. Friendly and professional front desk staff. Great place overall!

This review is for the Massage service. Excellent all around, zero complaints. A quality setup and operation. I was referred by a friend and I called on a Saturday for a Sunday 90 minute deep tissue massage. You change in the men's locker room, and they provide a robe. Then I waited in a comfortable chair for the therapist. She led me to a clean quiet professional room where I got an excellent full body tune-up. She was super friendly, professional and used the right amount of pressure. Will return. Great value compared to many other more expensive places. Therapist was Christin C.
