The Jade Mountain anthology is a collection of poems from ancient China that describe a life in harmony with nature, and in balance with Heaven and Earth. This image has been an inspiration for the book Archetypal Acupuncture, which integrates the Chinese model of the Five Elements with modern Jungian psychology.
Jade Mountain is also a symbol used for a health centre, where practitioners provide an array of holistic healing modalities. Founder Dr. Gary Dolowich offers workshops that explore Archetypal Acupuncture for acupuncturists and the general public.

The Chinese model of the Five Elements has been used by acupuncturists for thousands of years to balance ch'i, the vital force of the body. Archetypal Acupuncture: Healing with the Five Elements draws upon case histories, spiritual poetry, classic sources such as the I Ching, and examples from contemporary culture to revitalize traditional wisdom, bringing East and West together.
At Jade Mountain Health Centre, we hold a vision of working in partnership with our clients in order to treat the whole person in body, mind and spirit. Drawing upon diverse skills and experiences, our practitioners create a calm, nurturing environment in which healing can take place. All practitioners bring a supportive and engaged presence to their work, allowing a deeper awareness and connection to unfold. Our goal is to treat holistically, and to not separate the symptom from the patient in whom it occurs.
The model of the Five Elements, handed down from ancient China, is both the foundation for a system of medicine and a symbolic representation that provides a way "to live the fullest life." Essentially, the elements are universal archetypes that can guide us in the art of living. To participate in an elemental life is to embody the wisdom of indigenous, earth-based cultures, where the value of living in harmony with the rhythms of nature is considered a central teaching. In essence, the goal of the system of medicine that is based on this model is to assist each individual in expressing their own unique, original nature.
Gary Dolowich offers workshops, talks, and interviews around the country for both the general public and health care professionals. Each event draws upon information about the Five Elements, Jungian psychology, specific archetypes and symbols, and the interrelationships among these teachings. In this presentation we will first explore how the Five Elements was used by the ancient Chinese as a way to understand the movement of life's energies in nature.Building on the premise that humans embody these same principles, we will then see how this model becomes the basis for a system of medicine that enables us to directly diagnose and treat the ch'i (energy) that underlies our inner nature.
