Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine, dating back over 5,000 years to ancient India. It is the science of living in harmony with nature. In Sanskrit, Ayur- means life and -Veda means knowledge. Ayurveda utilizes various therapies including yoga, diet, massage and herbal preparations to bring balance and harmony to the body, mind, and soul.
Ayurveda is a truly holistic approach to achieving and maintaining wellness based on thousands of years of research and practical experience. Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old healing tradition from India. Ayur means "life" and Veda means "knowledge", so Ayurveda is the knowledge of knowing yourself and learning how to live in harmony with nature.
Our Ayurvedic Practitioners are members of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association. They have studied extensively with esteemed teachers in India and the USA. Richard and Omi are experts in guiding their patients according to Ayurvedic principles and protocols. Richard founded the Ayurveda Health Retreat in 2001 and is a dedicated Yoga teacher and Ayurvedic educator.
The Ayurveda Health Retreat is located in the small historic town of Alachua, in north-central Florida. In your free time you can take a relaxing stroll down charming Main St. or visit the freshwater springs, parks, and rivers nearby. Nothing encourages relaxation and recovery like quality time spent reconnecting with Mother Earth.

I spent 12 days at the retreat., and had the best experience ever. The kindness of staff is incredible. I have a very restricted diet, and all the chefs (from South Africa, Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil) went out of their way to feed me. The panchakarma treatments allowed me to open my heart for healing body and spirit. The twice a day yoga sessions were restoring for my body and soul. The journey at the retreat made me a stronger grateful human being. I highly recommend it.

This was my second stay at the retreat. I recently had some surgery and needed some R&R. The food was amazing! The treatments were great and I really enjoyed the other guests at the retreat. It is a very small venue (6 people), and it made for a very intimate experience. The staff is centered on making sure you have a positive retreat.

After my treatment, the director took me to his office and criticized my spiritual choices, advocating his own personal philosophy of ritvikism. Given my sense of indebtedness for the physical treatment I had just received, combined with my anger at his criticisms, I felt extremely uncomfortable and imposed upon.

I had a phenomenal panchakarma experience at Ayurveda Health Retreat. I would recommend visiting AHR if you are looking to rest and heal and would like to learn more about Ayurveda. I found the space to be warm and welcoming. The staff are exceptional and very kind, considerate and supportive. I felt that I was taken care of throughout my entire stay.
The treatments are very restorative. The practitioners are true healers. I noticed a positive shift in my symptoms during my five days there. I learned a lot about ayurveda, myself, and changes I can make to my daily routine to be more supportive going forward. Learning my prakriti and vakriti during my ayurvedic consultation provided a new roadmap in understanding and treating my symptoms.
I really enjoyed the delicious food and the variety of yoga and meditation offered. Visiting AHR allowed me a chance to rest and recharge, and gave me a lot of hope that I can continue to decrease the impact of my conditions going forward. Thank you to everyone at AHR for providing an amazing retreat experience. I can't wait to return.

This retreat is phenomenal! The management team, Jose, Danielle, and Emily are kind and generous. The accommodations are kept immaculate. The food is delicious. I am not vegan but I could eat the food made by their chefs daily. The service team members are careful, kind, and respectful. I absolutely give 5 stars.
