Gua Sha is a healing technique used in Asia by practitioners of Traditional Medicine, in both the clinical setting and in homes, but little known in the West. It involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument; that results in the appearance of tiny red petechiae called 'sha', that will fade in 2 to 3 days.

While the Gua sha book and DVD are essential background, research and reference for a competent Gua sha practitioner, Gua sha has always been taught person to person.

It is recommended to provide every patient with a handout that explains Gua sha, even if the patient has had Gua sha before. Providing a handout is part of the Gua sha treatment. The handout provided here is in simple language. We will post translations into other languages as soon as they are available.
