For more than thirty six years, Yoga Concepts has defended the postures and benefits of bikram hot yoga. Established in 1985, Yoga Concepts was the first Bikram Method School in the northeast. Each class is a 90-minute comprehensive program, teaching you the basics of yoga. Bikram's technique is specifically tailored for modern lifestyle conditions including stress, overeating, poor posture, and an aggressive lifestyle.

The 26-posture sequence is scientifically designed and choreographed to go through the entire body, relieving stress, balancing and strengthening the glands, organs, tendons, and weight, and building willpower, self-control, and patience.

The Bikram Yoga style was scientifically designed and choreographed to include 26 different postures that go through the entire body. Specifically designed to combat modern lifestyle conditions such as stress, over eating, poor posture, and aggressive lifestyles, it is also designed to fit busy schedules.
Staying hydrated has a number of benefits beyond yoga but being adequately hydrated is especially important for hot yoga classes. Even a beginning student will bend and move around in ways that will be uncomfortable on a full stomach. This will allow you to get comfortable and fill out any paperwork if you are a new student.

By far the best instruction I have ever had in 13 years of practice. Mary Ann and Donna are the best of the best. I wish I could practice with them every day. If you are new to yoga or a pro, this is the best studio in Rhode Island. Authentic and true Bikram yoga!

You will learn more in a single class here than you may get anywhere else. This studio is state of the art and super clean. It encompasses the discipline and expertise of an authentic lineage with the comfort and hygiene of a modern spa. It's worth going out of your way for this place. Especially if you're looking for the real deal Bikram Yoga.

Great yoga instruction in a first class studio. I've been practicing yoga under the direction of Mary Ann and Donna for several years and it has truly paid off. It doesn't get any better with their dedication, clean studio, the benefits of far Infrared heat and always great energy throughout each class with motivated fellow students. For those that may be experiencing physical impairments Mary Ann and Donna have introduced adjustments to yoga positions. From my experience, like any form of exercise it takes effort and "great things never come from comfort zones" and the mind and body benefits of this practice pay off!

As an experienced yoga practitioner of 15 years, I was recommended this studio to help with my post-surgical knee. Mary Ann is absolutely the best teacher and mentor. She taught me modifications to ease in my recovery and offered me further recommendations upon further recovery. She is phenomenal! I would pay any price for her expertise! She knows yoga to a level I haven't seen since Bikram.

Yoga Concepts is super clean. The studio doesn't smell and the locker rooms and showers are clean. The heat at this studio is just amazing, it's a hot and sweaty Bikram class, yet my lungs don't feel like they are going to explode. I've been practicing Bikram yoga for over 5 years and the far infrared heat allows me to work harder while Donna and Mary Ann, the owners, give specific corrections that help me improve.

Since I started coming here in May, I can stretch about 4 inches more in the half moon, and can hold the standing head to knee pose w/ leg extended. I've also lost 10 lbs and a dress size. I feel great. This isn't a place where a bored instructor recites the dialogue with the canned corrections. Mary Ann and Donna TEACH, and correct everyone by name.

The other students are friendly and polite--people will offer to move over a couple of inches to let you squeeze in and not have to practice in the crack of a mirror, for instance. People of all ages, sizes and shapes practice here--not just the super flexible people in trendy yoga clothes--it's a great place to develop a solid foundation and life long practice.

I have been practicing Bikram yoga for years and have visited number of studios around the country and outside of the US. This is one of the few studios that gets the temperature and humidity perfect nearly every time. Just warm and humid enough so that you are not sweating until you start doing the poses. Mary Ann and Donna are great teachers that have a lot of experience and will help you improve.

They will also notice if you are subtly out of position and give you corrections to get you back in place. If you have not tried hot yoga this would be a great place to do so as you will get personalized instruction. Also if you are a little tight or have an old injury you may get some modifications to the standard poses that will get you straightened back out.

MaryAnn and Donna have been teaching Bikram's yoga method for decades. They know their stuff, unlike many newer "teachers" who just recite a memorized script. MaryAnn and Donna know how to adapt Bikram yoga for all fitness levels, so there is no need to fear if you are not a human pretzel. If you are interested in learning proper form in a beautiful studio, come to Yoga Concepts.

I have visited 55 hot yoga studios across the country, and Mary Ann is easily the best teacher I've met. Her knack for providing carefully crafted instructions to individual students is awe-inspiring. There is no painfully regurgitated "dialogue, " and no ridiculous and extreme conditions that cater to the egotist. Don't get me wrong--the room is hot and humid, but you sweat because she makes you work hard, not because you feel faint due to a heat index of 150. Mary Ann knows all the modifications for those who have any ailments, and how to push those who master the basics.

You can take a break if you are having an off day without absurd repercussions or belittling. Unfortunately, I can only make it once or twice a week now since I moved away--but the high quality instruction and proper conditions make it worth the trip. Definitely try the place, especially now with the brand new accommodations--always clean and never smelly. Easy parking eliminates yet another headache. Go in prepared to listen and learn, and you will be amazed at how much you didn't know!

The address on Google Places is incorrect. The new studio is at 1150 Pontiac Avenue (Rear), in Cranston. I have been taking yoga classes at Yoga Concepts (at their old location) for six years. I take Bikram classes around the country when I travel, and have also taken hot vinyassa classes. This studio is consistently clean: the carpets do not smell, and the air quality in the space is good. Mary Ann and Donna, both trained by Bikram himself, are teachers, they do not just recite the memorized monologue.

You will be corrected by name if you should be doing a posture differently. They want their students to improve. Not everyone appreciates being publicly corrected during class, but if you can let your ego go, you will see fast improvements in your form and practice. While an individual class may be hard, over the years, my stamina, endurance, and determination have grown immensely.

This studio attracts small business owners, lawyers, nurses, doctors and other professionals in high-stress jobs. Why are they there? Possibly because high-achievers seek new ways to challenge themselves, and this class is consistently challenging and never boring. But also because an intense hour and a half of intense focus is the best relaxation there is. Yoga Concepts is opening a new studio, and construction delays mean they will be closed for part of the summer of 2013. I am looking forward to resuming my practice in the new space!
