I have been practicing yoga for 45 years and have been to many yoga studios. Abhaya remains my all-time favorite. The teachers are all outstanding, lead by the remarkable Tara Glazier. I have been a member for ten years and recommend this studio without hesitation.

Abhaya is a great yoga studio, led by Tara Glazier-who is a loving, generous, deep and talented teacher for all levels of students. Tara's breadth of knowledge is admirable- having been a dancer for many yrs., she has great physiological knowledge (partly gleaned from injury). She is also well-versed in Eastern spiritual traditions and mythologies, all of which is seamlessly woven into her classes. Wonderful and varied other teachers and a warm community of people too!

Truly the best, kindest, most sensitive, most intelligent, most spiritual yoga teaching I've ever had. Every teacher seems carefully selected to carry forward the genuine spirit of Abhaya. You'll get none of the cookie-cutter, fast food yoga practices you get at some of the more commercialized studios. Each teacher is highly knowledgeable about the long tradition of yoga and the workings of the body.

I wasn't by any regard a yoga expert when I started at Abhaya, and though I won't say I'm an expert now, I feel like Abhaya has opened my eyes to the continual journey of discovery you can get on with your yoga practice. At other studios, I'd had the practices memorized after a few visits and didn't feel like I could go deeper. Abhaya is a studio that helps people of all levels nourish a mind-body-spirit connection, giving a lot more than just a pop-in exercise.

Abhaya is a beautiful studio. The teachings of yoga are taught with the upmost respect and the community feel is very welcoming to anyone who comes by. Students of all abilities and backgrounds are made to feel safe and appreciated. Best studio in NYC with out a doubt. I can't wait to go back

Err I've been more than once and there was no teacher, no class. What's up people? Really would like to give this studio a shot but I'm wondering if they actually follow their online schedule?

Well I was in Dumbo on A Sunday and walked into a 6pm class. Was an amazing and relaxing experience. The instructor Erica was super friendly, sweet and basically had an amazing YOGA experience. Was feeling stressed and an hour later she left me in a completely relaxed and positive feeling. Will definitely come back to take her classes

I love Abhaya Yoga! Every class I have taken has been wonderful and I only have great things to say about all of the instructors! They have nurtured a diverse, accepting, and loving community and I would recommend both this studio and their location in Gowanus to anyone and everyone!

This place is unique and amazing, so much more than a regular yoga studio. There, you'll find amazing teacher, various asana classes, meditations, sound healing and body works. With a great sense of community and a very strong program for continuing education and teacher training. This place transformed me. Abhaya is a genuine place very rare in NYC. Please, go check by yourself, you won't be disappointed.

This is a special studio. You go in feeling nervous, maybe stressed and you walk out feeling like you can handle anything. You really get to grow in this studio, physically and mentally. The teachers really work with you to make sure you're doing things correctly and build your strength. I learned so much about my body, and healed some persistent injuries.

Every teacher I went to, I learned something new, I experienced something new. This studio also taught me to meditate so now I do everyday even at home. I really recommend anyone and everyone to try this studio, you'll have such a wonderful experience and learn so much about yourself!

Lovely small studio with a variety of classes at a reasonable price point. Community centered and friendly. Not your basic power flow / yoga PE studio. Has a positive energy and spiritual feeling. I have left every class feeling as if I did something very good for me.

I was feeling very in my head, full of anxiety and in a generally bad mood when I walked into Eric's class on the 4th of July. I knew I needed some "something" to get grounded and I have to say, Eric ended up being the perfect thing. The poses were just deep and long enough to start calming me down but it was his accompanying lecture about freedom that really struck a chord and drove the whole thing home.

This is probably going to sound eye-rollingly cliche, but I walked out feeling liberated in every sense of the word. I felt so great I rode my bike to the city and did a boxing class later that day. Thanks Eric!

Place I go when I stay with my mom. Cute little studio. Friendly and quality teachers. Good selection of classes. There is a cafe Right next store so you can get some tea/coffee after class. Also, when the weather is nice you can walk along the river before/after class as an added bonus to your zen yoga experience. I recommend!

Home from home. Top notch teacher training. Wonderful, human and skillful teachers. Personalized experience devoid of the turnstile yoga class phenomenon elsewhere. A true community of good souls to make yoga practice a meaningful, multilayered experience.

Love this studio! Had my first class there today. It's small and boutiquey which makes it feel more intimate and is right next to Brooklyn Bridge Park so you can enjoy your zen with a nice stroll after class. I've been doing Yoga to the People for a very long time and it feels like a more grown up version of that. (Aka less annoying hipsters more grown up ladies looking for a good practice.) My teacher was Tara for Vinyasa.

She was awesome and adjusted my form as well as other students consistently throughout without being intrusive. She was also great at moving us into unexpected positions. I liked being kept on my toes. Some downsides I could foresee for some folks is that it does fill up quickly and there are no showers. That doesn't bother me too much hence five stars. I'll definitely be back!

This is a review based on my classes with Tara. I have always been a yoga skeptic--but Abhaya and Tara really changed my view on yoga! The classes are so perfectly crafted and I always leave feeling refreshed, revived, and reinvigorated for life. The studio setting is beautiful and I would highly recommend checking the classes out.

A beeeeeautiiful studio. With a full view of the city, how could you not feel relaxed and at peace? The studio is only one large room with a small counter for check in and a wall of cubbies and mat storage. For some reason the person behind the counter always makes a lot of noise and moves around a bunch during class. Slightly distracting. Downside is that the restrooms are down the hall and shared by the entire floor of non fitness businesses.

No showers. Update: Switched it up one day and went to an evening class instead of my usual 10am and it was BONKERS! There were so many people in the class that the distance between my mat and the one next to me, if I had not left, was 2 inches. Seriously. Go in the morning if you can and enjoy the serenity that is a small class. Wednesday's 10am class with Katheryn is pretty much the best class ever.

Love this place. What a beautiful view, right on the waterfront, looking over the bridges and the Empire State Building while practicing. The practice is varied but unique to the studio. Much quieter and more like a friendly small town studio than in Manhattan - we walk over the Brooklyn Bridge every Saturday for class. Props are in good shape, they have flops to borrow if you need to step out and use the hallway restroom, and everything feels bright and clean.

What a beautiful place, both physically and spiritually. The instructors here are attentive and really in tune with themselves and the students. Tara is a rockstar, the way she moves in her body with such certainty and assertiveness, makes you want to cultivate the same in yours. Today Debra, an advanced student, was assisting, she is one of the most compassionate and motivating human beings I've ever met. I am grateful to live near this healing sanctuary!

I took a class with Aaron Angel, who has a kind, warm presence. Sunrise yoga is early, but it's worth getting up for so you can watch the fog burn off the Empire State Building across the river. Magic! Everything is clean and bright. It's not my neighborhood, but I can't wait to come again!

Taking a private with Tara is priceless. I encourage all yogis to do privates a couple times a year to really further their practice.

I'm a traveling yogi. It's what I do. If I'm traveling, I usually try and check out a local yoga studio. Try coming to a class at sunrise or at sunset here in DUMBO. It's an amazing experience to do sun salutations as you see lights twinkling from the city right after sunset. There's no better view than that. And while you are admiring the view, you are working on your breathe, stretching your muscles, and meditating. I can think of no better place to do this. Give a shot, and I think you will be pleased, delighted, and refreshed.

"I've traveled far and wide through many different times, and for Yoga this is my BK Fav" Went here last weekend with Julie F for the first time. Amazing! You can check out my other Yelp Yoga reviews and see that I just don't gush about any place. I'm not that easy! I've never been to an Anusara studio before so this was a new experience.

I thought it was good, but not all that different from VInyasa. I had a great teacher (I can't remember her name) who was attentive and helped with corrections, a real plus since it was my first time here. As my fellow Yelpers have extolled, the space is reason enough to come. Classic Dumbo loft feel with high ceilings and exposed to brick in a converted industrial building.

Wonderful river and Manhattan views. Price: Consistent with most other studios. I signed up for the special intro rate for $20 for 10 days sessions which was a nice deal. Cons: My rented mat had seen better yoga sessions. Time to retire it guys. Maybe bring your own mat. I will definitely be back here soon. hmmmm if only I lived in the neighborhood.

I absolutely LOVE this studio. I've been going for several months and have never had a bad practice. My favorite aspect is that it's an Anusara studio.in Brooklyn! While I like Virayoga in M'tan, I keep to my borough whenever possible. I love starting each practice with the Anusara invocation. It's gives me a warm feeling all over. I've tried many classes (daytime, weekend, evening) with various instructors (Lisa is my favorite). They've all been amazing, talented and kind.

The weekday evening classes do get really crowded. But it's worth it. And the view is just fantastic! There's nothing quite like moving through a practice and looking out over the city. It's especially cool during a sunset or crappy weather. The prices are pretty standard for yoga. If it's your first time, you should take advantage of the free week. Also, they have cubbies for your stuff and coat hooks in the tiny changing area.

I stumbled upon Abhaya during my recent trip to Brooklyn. I generally stick to power yoga which I take 4-5 times per week, but this was my first excursion into anusara yoga. I still prefer power yoga, but this was a pleasant diversion from my normal routine. The view from the studio is absolutely amazing. Nothing like peering out over the East River while standing in tadasana. I will be sure to drop in again next time I am in Brooklyn.
