Our mission at Jaya YOGA since opening in 2000 has been and remains one of radical inclusivity and hospitality. We believe that the willingness to engage with the timeless practices of YOGA is all that is required to attend. Our desire to serve you has kept all of the teaching staff studying and learning from the greats in this tradition so that we can continue to bring forth and share our most authentic interpretations of asana and yoga philosophy and meditation with you.
The fundamentals of yoga postures (asanas) are introduced and explored in our Basic classes, with an emphasis on correct alignment, breathing practices (pranayama) and strength building for a solid foundation. If you are new to yoga, please check out the Beginners page for more information about getting started and our Workshops page for our Beginners Series.
Please bring yourself and your curiosity about the practice of yoga. In our Basic classes, you will experience basic level poses (asana) to get you moving, breath awareness exercises (pranayama) to help you deepen your lung capacity and meditation to help you intentionally let go of stresses from your daily activities.
Newbie - Are you having a hard time understanding the poses or want to know if you are doing them correctly? Being one-on-one with a teacher can help you better understand the ins and outs of the yoga poses we do in class. Experienced - Can't land that inversion or arm balance in class? Having one session to focus on more advanced postures can bring your practice to the next level!

Having recently moved to the area, Jaya Yoga is a wonderful escape from the busyness of NYC work-life. We are all so entrenched in our work that we forget to step back. Jaya Yoga is that spiritual Ashram that is a gift to all those residents in Windsor Terrace. It feels like a safe space to escape to in order to find 'center' in our lives. Ever-grateful for its existence in our area. Between the instructors and the ambiance of the actual facility, can't help but feel great joy that it is in our backyard.

I love this yoga studio so much! Every single class I've been to here has been one of the best classes I've ever taken in my life. The teachers all have their own styles but there is a commonality with in the practice - each teacher does their homework and creates a unique sequences that never feel rote. This place has great energy and is a lovely environment. It's small but feels perfect and I've never been to an overcrowded class.

When I moved to this neighborhood (Windsor Terrace) from Red Hook, I was sad to leave the yoga community I had been a part of for many years there. Fortunately, Jaya was close by and I stopped in for a class. Every teacher I have worked with there has been inspiring and knowledgeable. I've even brought my kids for the kids classes and Kirtan. I'm grateful to have found a welcoming and loving community here.

First of all, if you haven't read my review of Jaya East, Jaya Yoga Center's sister studio, you should start there. Moving on. I've been taking classes mainly at Jaya East, but sometimes with the timing of certain classes, I find that walking the 1.5 miles to and from this location is totally worth the trek. While equally loving and wonderful, this space also offers some of the best classes, instructors, the use of mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and yoga stuff galore.

The biggest difference between the studios is the setup. Here, students are lined up against 2 long walls opposite each other so that they will have 2 people on either side of them while facing the other half of the class. I initially worried that I would make a fool of myself, since now more people would be able to see me shaking, falling over and just generally being a clutz. But, I surprisingly realized that I enjoyed this setup more than the typical way of everyone facing the front of the room.

As it turns out, there is more room for the instructor to move around, making it easier to see them and making them more likely to come over and correct my shoddy poses. Come to this Jaya. Or go to the other Jaya. Whatever Jaya you choose to go to, I promise it'll be the best Jaya around.

This is a special spot. It's not super-'yang', flowing, muscularly demanding yoga. But it is challenging, rigorous, and precise -- I've only been once, traveling, but it feels like a studio where your practice would go and improve with time. The instruction of my class was specific, personal, and thoughtful. It's also clearly a place where 'yoga' as a holistic set of practices is embraced -- if you're _totally_ not into that it might be a turnoff, but I'm only _somewhat_ into it and liked it here, for the same reasons: it's all presented in a low-key way that treats the practice and you with respect, so it takes things seriously, but doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a good spot. You should try it out.

I love Clara's classes! She is such an inspirational teacher! Jaya is definitely more of a crunchy granola studio.lots of focus on chanting, meditation, mindfulness, etc. I personally love that holistic approach and I always walk away feeling very fulfilled. Thanks Jaya!

Great, clean studio with fantastic instructors. If you're a beginner, as I am, you don't feel out of place as the front desk and instructors are kind. They have a fantastic class schedule, too!

LOVE this studio. I've started attending beginner's classes both at this location and also the one in Kensington. It really depends on your mood.and the classes currently offered to prefer one over the other. The Park Slope branch tends to be darker, with only small windows in two corners, while the Kensington location has wall to wall windows.

The instructors balance their classes and time at both studios so it really just depends on your schedule which one to go to on any particular day. I've taken beginner's seminars with David and also with Ramit. They've both got their own styles, but the instructors are all definitely friendly and knowledgeable. Just bring yourself and a water bottle, they supply the mats, blocks, straps, and water! :

I don't have a "yoga body" and this is the first yoga class I've taken in many years. Even then I hadn't taken many as I had always found the class environment intimidating. Jaya's introduction to yoga workshop was the least intimidating most positive yoga experience I've ever had. I'm looking forward to returning, but Carla was thoughtful and at tentative and the general tone was amazing.

I walked in today for an open level class and I really liked it. I will be going again for sure! The teacher was helpful and offered options and I learned a few more tricks with blocks. For South Slope this is by far best studio I've found so far! If you live in S Slope give them a try =

I've been been practicing yoga for almost two years now, on and off though. I just moved to Brooklyn from Boston, where I had the best studio and the best Vinyasa teacher, so I was on a hunt for something very similar. Tried a couple places around that didn't really work for me and now finally found it - Jaya. Very friendly and warm atmosphere, great Basic class with Ramit. Although it's a little out of my way, I'm definitely going back there tonight for some Open experience.

I love this studio - for its simplicity and attention to teaching the not only the asanas but the spirit and meaning behind the practice. The one-room studio makes for a restful, no-nonsense practice. The community the exists because of their talks and other events makes it more than just a solo endeavor. Highly recommend trying it out.

After practicing in Manhattan for many years, I was happy to find a great community yoga place. There is no pretense here, just knowledgable instructors and a friendly community. I usually take class with Sarah, Carla, Judy or Ramit but have never been disappointed. The prices are good and mat rental is free, they even have the good Jade mats! I highly recommend it.

I haven't been practicing yoga for a long period of time (less than a year) and have recently taken a few classes here during this month; one draw was the instructor David (with whom I've taken introductory level yoga), who heads an Open class in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays--perfect for a way to wind down from the morning-to-evening back-to-back courseload I half-regrettably burdened myself during the weekdays.

Though a little more experienced than a novice, the vinyasas were slightly more difficult (a few different flows for each of the sessions I've taken). However, David was very attentive to all the students and gently adjusted each of us to attain the poses without injuring ourselves. The guided imagery and brief anatomical explanations he mentions while performing each pose helped with what to focus on and how to adjust to arrive at the proper positioning.

The single-room studio itself is pretty sizable, and the people working and teaching there are genuine and accommodating. The other students were very open and glad to share their experiences about the space and their learning. Another plus: the B67 brings you right there (coming from Atlantic Terminal, it was an easy find--just an avenue over)!

I recently tried this studio and took 3 classes - 1 with Kyle, 1 with Sarah and 1 with Judy. All teachers were excellent! Studio has a very nice vibe - room is simple and spacious. Other students seemed very nice and committed. Not a trendy place. All teachers seemed to really know their stuff and offered adjustments, corrections, and good instruction. I have practiced in many studios in NYC and San Francisco and this one rates high on my list! So glad to live near this place.

Jaya is the first yoga studio that I have attended in NYC that is truly a community. It has a welcoming atmosphere and the people Jaya draws are kind and community minded. The owners of Jaya and Jaya East are open to all new members of the community including when the student has never practiced yoga prior to Jaya. Another fantastic quality of Jaya is that if you are an intermediate or advanced student there is a place for you here as well. Teachers are A grade. Judy, Carla and Ramit are my favorite!

Wonderful, fun, and patient instructors; reasonable prices; a truely calming non-pretenticious atmosphere; and *tons* of free-to-use props (matts, blankets, bolsters, blocks, straps, sandbags, eyepillows, etc.) the only "negative" thing one to could say about jaya is that the bare-bones decor and lack or big window for natural light/fresh air. regardless, still my favorite yoga studio. also, jaya opened a new, second studio in kensington, called "jaya yoga east, " which is also excellent (and does have lots of windows). check out their schedules on the jaya website, which includes information about both studios.

I am giving this studio 4 stars instead of 5, because I am a very picky yogi and I like my yoga classes to be challenging. I find that the classes here are just a bit to gentle and easy. I have found so far that there is only one teacher who gives a good hard class. But with that said I do think the teachers are excellent, and really know their alignment. If you like gentle yoga, or if you are a beginner jaya is great. The environment is welcoming and prices are reasonable.

This is my favorite of the yoga studios I've tried so far in Park Slope. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable, classes aren't too full, and the space is nice--a large, rectangular room. I wish there were mirrors to help you check your position, but I guess you can't have everything. There's no charge to borrow a yoga mat, and classes are reasonably priced (cheaper if you buy a multi-class card).

This is the perfect yoga studio (for me anyway). The teachers are all competent, knowledgeable, and nice. They can their points across without sounding preachy and they manage to maintain open classes at a pace that accommodates both advanced and not so advanced students. It's a small studio, but I've never once felt crowded or like I didn't have enough space. The fact that it's right around the corner from my house is a plus too!

I went about 8 months ago, and I would keep going, but I have no time (maybe the reason why I need to go? How moebius?). Anyhow, I can definately recommend Friday and Saturday morning classes with Abby. Why? Well, I can't say I've had a class with every other teacher, but when I took one of her classes, I didn't want to experiement with anyone else. There's something about her pacing, the way she explains things and she can hold a tune (in sanskrit, no less).

Everyone is different, so if you are looking for a real hard-core yoga class with lots of quick poses and a teacher that will have no mercy on your pithy cubicle-body, well, maybe you should check out another teacher. I can only say that whatever she's got, it puts me back in balance and I feel normal again.
