We will describe it for you, but reflexology is truly best understood and appreciated through EXPERIENCE! Reflexology is a complementary health care modality used to help bring about balance and healing to the internal and biomechanical systems of the body. This balance, called homeostasis, is a state in which the body, mind and spirit are at peace and working to fine-tune internal systemic mechanisms. The feeling when you're in this state is dreamy - like a relaxing vacation on a calm, warm beach where all is well in the world.
Foot pain has many sources of influence including injury, tight or damaged muscles, chronic dehydration, and improper, unhealthy or poorly-fitting footwear. One of the benefits of reflexology is that it relaxes the feet, the muscles that move the feet, and the tissues of the foot and lower leg. This helps increase hydration to all tissues and increases muscle elasticity, enabling better foot function, increased range of motion, and often resulting in an immediate reduction in foot pain. The overall improvement in foot funtion can mean that there will be less damage to the feet with daily use, meaning the foot to begin to heal.
Achieving Natural Foot Health + Certification through Natural Foot Health Institute Dr. Ray McClanahan is a podiatrist from Portland who really knows a lot about how to help his clients find the root cause of their foot travails in order to avoid surgery and orthotics. His class in 2018 was a hit - we had more students in that class than any other class at SRMC!
