When my daughter was eighteen months she started to break out at the creases of her elbows, behind her knees and different parts of her body. She was scratching continuously to the point where the rash became raw, crusted and weepy. There was always blood on her bed linens, which had to be changed daily. Her doctor diagnosed her with atopic dermatitis, also popular as eczema. He prescribed various creams, which would calm the scratching but never stop it completely.
According to her doctor there was no cure for this common condition. The main procedures would be aimed at controlling and preventing inflammation and itching and include avoiding triggers, frequent bathing and hydrating of the skin, liberal use of moisturizers and lubricants, and the use of steroid creams to control flare ups. At the age of nine her skin looked like that of a burn victim and had the texture of rough black leather.

I realized that I don't know what I don't know. Little did I know that my test would become my testimony. In my quest to rid my daughter of her eczema and allergies, I became a student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and graduated with honors after completion of the curriculum to become a Certified Holistic Counselor. I am also licensed by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. This education offered me with the some of the know-how to help my daughter. I learned I had to change the following in order for my daughter's body to heal itself: food, environmental triggers, stress level and water.
