Services
Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As a holistic system, this medicine treats the whole person. Treatment addresses not only the presenting symptoms, but also the underlying constitution or condition responsible for these symptoms to develop. This system has been refined over the course of 4,000 years, and it has been combined with conventional medicine to provide maximum benefit to the patient.
In Chinese Medicine, nutritional / dietary therapy provides a powerful tool for correcting deficiencies and excesses in the human body; it makes use of acupuncture, herbal therapy and Qi Gong (a gentle form of exercise) to restore balance to the body's functioning, including body chemistry, organs, and circulatory systems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine these imbalances are viewed as deficiencies or excesses in Cold (yin), Heat (yang), Moisture, and Dryness.
We treat allergy with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine only several times a year during the hottest and coldest days. Most people get good results, and some experience relief relatively quickly. Headaches and migraines are a common symptom of patients who come to our clinic. The holistic approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine is well suited to deal with chronic headaches since they are frequently just a symptom prompted by other health issues. He explained that the pain is in the back of his head, the neck, right shoulder and spreads to the chest in front.

I have been to Dr Hou on and off for 15 years. my insurance finally covers her practice. Thanks to this last year going consistently, I have lost 37 pounds, lowered my sugar, lowered my blood pressure, lowered by bad and raised up my good cholesterol levels. I can honestly say, I am in better health now, then I had been with my PCP.

I was pleased with the entire experience. From the front office staff, to Dr. Hou's assistant and Dr Hou herself, it was fantastic. Dr. Hou was kind and very informative as I asked tons of questions. She was also very gentle and concerned about my comfort. In the end, she was able to fix what my problem was and while did I limp in, I walked out. I feel 100% better and thoroughly recommend Dr. Hou to anyone seeking pain relief and a fresh perspective on health care. Excellence on every level.

After years of having respiratory and sinus issues, a friend recommended that I try acupuncture, so we found Dr. Hou. I had some hesitation at first, since this was new to me, but after many unsuccessful traditional treatments, I though I would try something different out of desperation. I met with Dr. Hou and we talked about my diet, my history and the many meds that I had been on.
After the first treatment of acupuncture and cupping, the effects were immediate. I slept through the night for the first time in several years and with with continued treatments I have been able to get off my nebulizer, my inhaler and my medications. I now visit once a month and feel better than I have in years. If you are concerned about alternative treatments, I highly recommend Dr. Hou.

Dr. Wanying Hou was a huge help to me in managing my back pain, migraines, and anxiety. She performed acupuncture, hot needling, static, wet, and massage cupping. The cupping therapy was incredibly helpful to my pain caused by muscle tension. While the therapies themselves often caused discomfort (and sometimes outright pain), there was often immediate relief after, and I found my results here lasted longer than the 3 other acupuncture offices I visited in the past. I was a patient here for several years (2017~2020), and believe I will struggle to find a provider as skilled as her in my new town.

Fantastic doctor that is very experienced in her practice and what she does. I have had success with acupuncture in the past but nothing like the service that is provided here. She addressed an issue that I had with my sinus that had been bothering me for the last 10+ years and that even surgery did not fix. Give this practice a try and listen to the advice given here!

Dr. Hou is treating me for lower back back. After just a few treatments, I had more pain relief than 18 months worth of injections and physical therapy. During my first visit, she listened to my issues and helped me realize that the whole body needs to be healthy not just one area. Following her direction, everything began to improve. While it's a work in process, I look forward to continuing treatment and even more pain relief! Everyday life is finally getting back to normal again, thanks to Dr. Hou's treatments!

Very odd. Have never done this before and was open due to chronic back pain. When i arrived they took my license and insurance information and back I went. Thought it odd they kept those. Anyway there was little explanation to what would happen and many questions that were very assumptive. Had no idea how long this would take. After over an hour of laying there very uncomfortable she finally came back.
The heat lamp didn't work and I was in pain. Had I known I would be laying like that for an hour or more I wouldn't have done it. Charged me $125 and I left. I called as I couldn't believe I paid for this and the receptionist starting to argue with me. Terrible service and certainly not what I expected. What I find odd is prior to being with the doctor she never looked at the 5 pages of papers I filled out with what my history was.
Why fill them out if you don't plan to read them. And to leave me for over an hour and never check in, not ask how are things. odd. While I'm sure that acupuncture may be helpful it will not be from this place.

By reading the other reviews, its obvious my experiences were very different. This was my first experience with acupuncture and I saw Dr. Hou at both her Owings Mills and BelAir offices after a referral from my Pain Management Dr. for shoulder and neck pain. I walked away after my 2nd visit confident that I would not return. I was dissatisfied with the 1) assembly line approach and 2) lack of regard for patient information and records by the office staff. 1. Patients are basically set -up in a room for 35-60 minutes with minimal to no check-ins from Dr. Hou, as there is no other staff except the receptionist/office assistant.
During my 2nd visit, I was set up for my treatment and left unattended to the point where I could not summon Dr. Hou to report the heat was too hot, so 10 minutes into my acupuncture treatment I was able to push the heat lamp away from the treatment area (my back). About 40-45 minutes later, Dr. Hou finally returned to the room. Only then did I see a bell that was not provided for me at the start of the treatment.
Maybe this process is typical, but I would expect some degree of monitoring. It was apparent that Dr. Hou had not read my records sent over by my Dr. as she informed me that they had not arrived, yet, at check-out her office person confirmed they'd been downloaded into the system, only after rifling through a mound of other patient records as she complained about none of the paperwork being managed.
I also found it troubling that there is not the typical explanation of the treatment plan or the discussion of how medicine prescribed might interact with current patient medicines. At the end of my 1st visit, the receptionist gives me a zip lock bag of pills to take 8 (2x/day) with no other explanation or information from Dr. Hou. 2) I had to cancel my initial appointment because of an upper respiratory infection, but worked with the office to complete the customary New Patient forms.
At my last visit to the BelAir office, the office person (Sue) explains to me that she can't find my new patient paper work and I inform her that as instructed, I'd emailed the forms to her and sent a follow-up email to confirm receipt. She then asks me did she reply because she just found out that the office does not have email? So, I express my dissatisfaction that my forms with sensitive medical and personal information is not within their control and being protected as required by law and she begins to fall all over herself with excuses.
This is completely, unacceptable and unprofessional. Basically, first time experience, last time dealing with this sham of an office. I can pay $20 at the mall and likely get a more service and satisfaction than with this Dr. who I am paying out of pocket for because my insurance won't cover. I would not recommend this office at all.

Dr. Hoe is by far one of the best practitioner I have ever come across with. I've been seen by some of the top doctors at the NIH, Unversity of Maryland and more and nobody helped me get closer to normal then her. I have a rare nuerlogical condition that she has been treating me for and I thank GOD he put me in her path. I've tried acupuncture 3 different times from others that did not help.
Many years later after finding this place I am beyond greatful to have such a skilled practitioner to help and work on me. I can't say enough as I am about a month and a half in and hoping and praying for continued healing. Thank you. Chris

I can't say enough about the impact that Dr. Hou's treatment and care has had on my over-all health. She treats me for chronic pain, insomnia and autoimmune conditions that I have. I originally came to her just for pain but she treated "all of me" and as a result I am much better and off medications which were primarily causing additional side effects/potential future damage to my health.
The wisdom, common sense care and insight provided by her eastern medical knowledge and perspective coupled with her western medical skills have been invaluable. She has delivered tremendous results for me, as well as family and friends.
