This style is one of the underlying principles of the ancient and classical form called Astanga Yoga, referred to today as Power Yoga. This style dates back to 400 B.C. and is known for its therapeutic value. Yoga practice gradually opens, realigns, builds strong and flexible bodies, calms and sooths tension filled minds and is the best antidote to the negative effects of sports and other relating activities.

Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic form of Hatha Vinyasa Yoga. This class starts with traditional Ashtanga Sun Salutations A & B, progressing through the classic standing sequence, the ending is modified from the primary series including a finishing sequence and savasana. Merging of the breath, asana and drishti (gazing point) create a form of moving meditation.

A great and very welcoming place to a fat out of shape beginner like me! I'm sure they have some advanced classes but the gentle flow and restorative classes are all I'm interested in right now.

I have only just started practicing yoga after a completely sedentary lifestyle of many years. I have only attended two classes, but I have met manny supportive people and two wonderful instructors. The instructors, and indeed the atmosphere as well as the other students, are attentive and nurturing. There is a constant mindfulness on the part of the instructors to make sure everyone is comfortable and working at a pace which gentle yet challenging. Thank you to everyone at Yoga in Motion for making my start along what I hope will be a long journey a good one with a solid foundation.

I have been going to this studio on and off for about a year and a half and I love it! The atmosphere is super relaxing and cozy. There are cubbies but no inside waiting area between classes so they keep the door locked until the previous class is finished. This has never been a problem for me. There is always plenty of time to set up your space and center yourself before class.

I always bring my own mat but like to use their props l. I have taken a wide range of classes and all of the instructors are welcoming. They are very constructive and really show interest in each student's practice and growth. For the value this studio offers I definitely recommend!

Nidhi's prenatal yoga class on Sundays is wonderful! I went faithfully every week, and my back actually felt better in the final stages of pregnancy than it had in years :. Wish I coul still go now that I'm post partum

It has been easy to learn at Yoga in Motion. I have been impressed by the instructors. Pricing seems very competitive. Schedule offers both morning and evening classes.

I was asked what studio I changed to. It's Nydia's Yoga Therapy on Lockhill Selma and 1604.

I used to attend when Effie was the instructor. I attended today and the owner Terry was there. The instructor was Ma - she was great! Class started late. The owner had his DOG in the studio, he walked around the studio, walked on our mats. His son walked in with his toddler. Class started and we are all trying to capture that zen moment and it's a little difficult when there is a toddler being a toddler (not their fault) and a dog in the background. Quite disappointed.

The Beginner Workshop preceded my regular attendance to the Beginner classes which are scheduled each week. Amazing knowledge and excellent instruction clarifies the positions for poses along with enthusiasm to motivate us to explore our awareness and abilities. There are options in the mornings and evenings in addition to the range of levels for individuals. I am learning so much in this friendly and beautiful studio atmosphere.

I have been going here since July 2014 and love it. I attend a tougher class when I can, and when I can't, there is a Gentle class that is perfect.

I found Yoga In Motion through a Groupon. (FYI: There is an expiration date and time period of using the Groupon should you purchase it.) I was very pleased with the "Mixed Level Flow" class I attended. That level of class offered a gentle to intermediate flow with some advanced postures. The facility is a great size for a large class (around 10-15 people), but not too large you lose the intimacy.

The staff (Terry) was very nice and welcoming. Bring your own mat, but blocks are provided should you need one. (I do believe there are mats available to purchase there, but I did not ask about borrowing one.) I also attended the Ashtanga class. That is an advanced class and should only be attended if you are experienced in yoga. It is a repetitive flow class.

This is a work out, but great. The instructor was great and tailored the class to us as we went and offered gentle adjustments. I am a very satisfied customer and do intend to finish my classes up. I do wish there were more evening/weekend classes available; you can see their new calendar online. Compared to other yoga studios I've been to and priced online, they are in the medium range.

I go here regularly, love my yoga and the practice is very good here. They have all levels of classes for all levels of people, including rank beginners, the elderly, and post-operative recovery patients, all the way to intermediate level (which is pretty challenging). Effie is very positive and drives a pretty mean class when you need it! I have taken Beginner level classes (which is actually not the lowest level they offer, there are three less-intense classes before the Beginner level), Mixed level (one level up), and Intermediate (one level above that).

What I like is that at the end of every class is a very peaceful relaxation phase of the class that allows you to let go of the stresses of the day--I leave with the same feeling as I get leaving the masseuse! My body feels relaxed, stress free, as though nothing will bother me!

I have taken yoga classes at different studios over the span of 5 years, and I can say that the instructors here are among the best. Flowing through a vinyasa here is like flowing through a guided meditation -the instructors walk you through the postures and direct your awareness. Although some of the postures can be challenging, the instructors always provide modifications.

I can't say enough good things about the instructors. Effie and Kathy have soothing personalities and you can tell that they are very compassionate and caring. I have had core class with Claudia and she is fun and spunky. If you are looking for a physical and mental challenge under the guidance wonderful instructors, this is definitely a studio to try out.

The practice space is really nice too. **One word of note, the doors are locked when class starts, so get there at least 5-10 min earlier than the posted class starting time!

I've been doing yoga for almost ten years now. I don't consider myself a beginner in any way, and I don't consider myself an expert; I simply enjoy it. I went to Yoga in Motion for the first time today for the core focus class and absolutely loved it. The instructor was calming, but pushed you in a good way. The studio was intimate and very clean. I brought my own mat, but I saw that there were mats, blocks, and blankets available to borrow. I will definitely be back here for the other classes; I was very pleased.

I've been going to this studio for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed the Saturday sessions with Claudia. There is a decent range of ability even in the beginner class, and she's always willing to help with beginner and intermediate modifications. Her classes are Vinyasa flow and keep you sore in a good way for a few days. There is another instructor on Saturdays (they alternate) that does a little bit more of a free-form class. She's really into more of the New Age kind of practice and is open to her students suggesting the focus of the session.

She promised us a good hip opening class next time if we remind her. I prefer Vinyasa, but I do like that we can have a bit of variety in the other class. The instructors are also good about adjustments, not trying to push those who aren't open to it (although you need to be to lead to more successful practice). The studio is small, but a good size to keep classes manageable.

There are mats, blocks, and blankets to borrow if you don't have your own, and all are good quality. Class cards are kept on file so you don't have to keep track of one more thing in your wallet. Classes are $15 for a drop-in and can be as cheap as $10 with a 20 class card.

Popped in for some yoga while I was in town for Christmas. My bf and I wanted to introduce his mom to yoga as a Christmas gift.you know the kind of gift that keeps on giving :) She's never done yoga before.(I'm a yoga instructor and my bf is intermediate/advanced).and we thought it would be nice to actually take her to a class so she would feel more comfortable and know what to expect.

We chose this studio after looking at a couple of different ones in the area on-line.it looked the most professional and from the bios on-line, the instructors were the most experienced. Since it was over the holidays.class schedule was limited.and the only reasonable option was the Beginner Flow class on Saturday.so off we went to get all bendy stretchy. Cute little one room studio.

I spied a couple of changing rooms in the back.and there is of course a bench to sit down and remove shoes, store personal items etc. Mats, props and blankets were all available for student use. They only open the studio about 5 minutes before a class starts.which on the day we were there caused a back-up of students signing-in, paying & filling out paper work so class started a little bit late and there obviously wasn't any time to stretch out and relax before class.

As for the actual class. I thought it had a nice flow.and the instructor was very sweet but I wouldn't say that this was a good class for beginners. There was a lot of standing poses and a lot of backbending which is fine if you're going to give a modified option for beginners/level 1 students but in this case there wasn't. The other thing that I thought was really uncool was that the instructor kept calling out my bf's mom in class and verbally correcting her by name loudly enough for the whole class to hear.again, appreciate the help.but when you have a student in class that is new to yoga they already feel a little bit awkward and bringing attention to that doesn't really help.

After class both the instructor and the owner were extremely nice and spent time with my bf's mom to speak to her about her issues and help her feel more comfortable.which I really appreciated. They ended up recommending a couple of class options that would be more on par with her ability and we ended up buying her a class package to use. Overall. I think this is a good option for yoga in San Antonio.and I will be back on my next visit to try some of the more advanced classes.
